Oktoberfest? You mean Beericana 2017

Hello Cheers Charlotte listeners and followers. My name is Tyler Krantz and I was given the incredibly difficult task of attending Beericana at Sugg Farm Park in Holly Springs this year, Thank you Cesar. This was the my first time at Beericana, I have to say it was one of the better beer festivals that I’ve been to. Parking for the event is close to the entrance and attendants made getting in quick and easy. Sugg Farm is a large venue so even with the masses coming in after VIP it didn’t feel overly crowded. Over 70 breweries with everything from NEIPA to sours to big barrel aged stouts meant that there was something for every palate. Breweries from Asheville to Wilmington provided a great sample of North Carolina beers. There were several new breweries there this year, Brewery Bhavana, Vicious Fishes, and the highly-anticipated Barrel Culture to name a few. No surprise that Barrel Culture maintained one of the longest lines of the festival until they ran out, totally worth the wait by the way, and timed releases meant something new each trip through the line. The surprisingly long line belonged to Vicious Fishes, with a really good wild ale and a solid NEIPA. Other highlights for me were Bond Bros., Haw River, Four Saints, Hardywood and my personal favorite, Heist. The Heist Maple Junkie may have been the best beer at the festival. Of course with all the beers being sampled you will probably want some food to help maintain. Multiple food trucks were on site serving everything from tacos and sandwiches to bbq and lobster rolls. There was also music in the air to go along with all the great beer and food. Urban Soil, The Gypsyswinger and Trongone Band played throughout the day giving festival goers a nice place to step away from the beer tents and show off those beer enhanced dance moves. If dancing is not your thing and you thought to yourself “I should take a camping chair” then the area in front of the stage would have worked for you as well, and would have been a great place to eat that lobster roll. Mark your calendar for Beericana 2018, make the short trip up 85 to Holly Springs and you won’t regret it, Adam and Wayne with 919 Beer really do a fantastic job with this event. Cheers everyone and don’t forget your chair.
